It is naturally found in the southern Karoo region, South Africa and usually found under small shrubs ans stones on gravelly plains and flats. It was first collected by Mr Burke, recollected by Mr D. A. Cole in 1960 near the Gamka River in Beaufort West Division, Cape Province.
